Our Journey Ends...

We began this journey on November 22, 2008; we will end our journey on Presidents Day and Black History Month.  Following Malia and Sasha was an experience of a lifetime.  We learned so much and hope you enjoyed  our weblog.  We want to thank all of our visitors and fans of the First Daughters. We end our blog with almost 50,000 visitors to our site.  Although this is our last post, grandma will continue to acknowledge birthdays and good news on our book twitter and facebook pages.

Don't forget, you can view four years of Malia and Sasha via this weblog and the first year is in our book entitled Our Journey with Radiance and Rosebud.  We will still post comments.

Thank you so much,
Kailysia and Kaila Beckwith

A Prayer for Malia and Sasha

God of Heaven and Earth, we thank you for life and life more abundantly.  We thank you for leadership in the greatest country on earth, the United States of America.  We thank you Father for the gift of family that we see evident in the life of our President. Father God, we pray a covering not just for the leadership of America, or the White House, not only for President Obama and his wife Michelle, but particularly for their daughters Malia and Sasha.

While being children of the President of the United States of America, and in the spotlight each and everyday, we cover them while in school, in the parks, when traveling, when shopping for fun and fashionable wardrobes and games, or maybe just being outdoors playing with their puppy BO, it is our prayer, God, that you will protect Malia and Sasha, as well as their parents and others who attend to them.

It is also our prayer that they will be educationally, socially and spiritually developed, and even though their roles are very important, it is also our prayer that they will have a chance to enjoy a wholesome childhood.  We also pray, Father God, that their parents will continue to cover them with prayer everyday, and Father God, while Malia and Sasha did not ask for this we are truly thankful for their position to influence so many others in a positive way. Now we pray that you will give them everything they need to deal with the pressures that come along with their newfound responsibilities.

Lastly, but certainly not least, Father God, we thank you for the lives that will be changed all over the world for the better as a result of Malia and Sasha.     This is our prayer.  Amen.

Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. Day!

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is a United States federal holiday marking the birthday of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It is observed on the third Monday of January each year, which is around the time of King's birthday, January 15. The floating holiday is similar to holidays set under the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, though the act predated the establishment of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day by 15 years.

King was the chief spokesman for nonviolent activism in the civil rights movement, which successfully protested racial discrimination in federal and state law. The campaign for a federal holiday in King's honor began soon after his assassination in 1968. Ronald Reagan signed the holiday into law in 1983, and it was first observed on January 20, 1986. At first, some states resisted observing the holiday as such, giving it alternative names or combining it with other holidays. It was officially observed in all 50 states for the first time in 2000.

The winner of the Scholastic and Nickelodeon Student Vote is President Barack Obama

Wikipedia, Scholastic and Nickelodeon

Kids Pick the President is a series of "campaign" specials produced by the Nickelodeon TV network, organized around a mock election to determine children's choice for the President of the United States. Since 1992, Kids Pick the President has accurately predicted the winner of each election with the sole exception of the 2004 race.

The "Scholastic Election" has been conducted by Scholastic News every election year since 1940. It claims to have predicted the final election results correctly with two exceptions: Harry S. Truman's win over Thomas E. Dewey in the 1948 election and John F. Kennedy's win over Richard Nixon in the 1960 election.

Kids picked President Obama in the 2012 mock Scholastic and Nickelodeon elections.

The View: A chat about Malia and Sasha

Atlanta Blackstar

The Commander in Chief and First Lady Michelle Obama stopped by “The View” for a chat and their daughters Malia and Sasha were the highlights of the conversation. According to the president, the girls are getting to the age where they aren’t attached to their parents’ hip. “They’re now at the point where they still love their daddy, but they come in [to visit him] strategically,” he said. “They’re not being surly or anything.”

The president also shared that Malia is “turning into a night owl like me” and a cute story about how the girls compared their dad going on stage to give a speech to the Hannah Montana movie. “People are whispering in their various headphones, and I’m about to go on cue. I see Sasha and Malia spinning around,” he said. When he asked them why they were spinning, they told him “this just like in the Hannah Montana movie.”
